Tips for Choosing the Right Bed System

A good sleep environment is convincing not only in terms of ergonomics, but also in terms of bed climate, hygiene, and durability. Bed, mattress, and slatted base or a box-spring bed with a topper, each combined with pillow and duvet, should come together as a bed system matched to you. For choosing the right models, we recommend a personal consultation and, of course, a trial lie-down – since you are the one who can best sense what does you good. Here is what to look out for when buying:

Sleeping Surface Dimensions

Length: your body height plus approx. 20 cm

Width: at least 90 cm for a single sleeper, at least 160 cm for couples

Firmness Level

The ideal firmness level is influenced by your weight, your body height, and your preferences. Ultimately, your body should sink evenly into the sleeping surface without sagging. Since there are no uniform standards for mattress firmness levels, a trial lie-down is essential. Always test the mattress with a suitable slatted base. Slatted bases can usually be adjusted, allowing firmness and lying feel to be individualized.

Sleeping Position

Back: the spine should be supported in line with your body shape, with no gap forming between the sleeping surface and the lower back.

Side: the shoulders and hips should be able to sink in sufficiently.

Stomach: the mattress should support the pelvic and abdominal area so that the spine does not sag.

Climate

Quick to feel cold: if you are sensitive to cold, mattresses made of materials with good heat retention, such as visco or cold foam, are suitable.

Frequent sweating: for heavy sweating, cold-foam mattresses with an open-pore cell structure (EvoPore) and plastic springs, or pocket-spring mattresses, are worth considering.

Special Needs

Health concerns: tell your consultant about any concerns such as snoring, apnea, back problems, rheumatism, osteoarthritis, circulation problems, reflux, etc., so that together you can find the right sleep system.

Allergies (latex, dust mites): especially with allergies, the right bed system can make a decisive difference to your sleep quality. Be sure to raise this during your consultation.

Tips for the Trial Lie-Down

Before lying down: stretch thoroughly before your trial lie-down. This loosens you up and makes your body receptive to new impressions. It is best to take off your belt and shoes.

While lying down: make sure you are lying comfortably and that the surface supports you in the right areas. No pressure points should form. Stay on your favorite for about 15 minutes, so that the mattress material fully adapts to the pressure and temperature of your body.
