How long does a mattress last?

How long a mattress can be used depends on personal preference, care and maintenance, and how often it is used. Nevertheless, for hygiene reasons it is advisable to replace the mattress after 8 to 10 years.

How do I find the right mattress for me?

That depends on your individual wishes and needs. Our mattress finder gives you initial guidance. We will also be happy to advise you personally in our showroom in Bischofszell, or conveniently from your home by phone or video call.

Is a firm or a soft mattress better?

The right mattress for you should create a pleasant lying feel, relieve the shoulders and hips, and support the body at the same time. The right firmness level depends on your body shape as well as your personal preference. Our mattress finder provides guidance. If you are unsure, get personal advice and try lying on the mattress yourself.

Should I choose a different mattress than my partner?

The right mattress and the right firmness level depend on your body shape as well as your personal preference. It therefore very often makes sense for each person to choose the mattress that suits them individually. Within one model, two firmness levels in a single cover are also available on request.

Should I buy a mattress without lying on it first?

That depends on your individual wishes and needs. Our mattress finder gives you initial guidance. We will also be happy to advise you personally in our showroom in Bischofszell.

Where can I try lying on a mattress and get advice?

You are welcome to try out our range in person in our showroom in Bischofszell (TG). We will be happy to advise you there and show you the products live – simply drop by or arrange an appointment in advance.

Can I sleep-test a mattress?

Satisfaction guarantee: All BICO and Isabelle mattresses come with a 100-day satisfaction guarantee. If you are not satisfied, you can exchange the core of your mattress for one of the same model or the same height up to 100 days after delivery. We charge a service fee of CHF 110.– for this. Which mattress for back pain?

Especially in the case of complaints, the bed system should be individually tailored to you. Keeping the spine straight and providing the necessary ergonomic support relieves the musculoskeletal system. Some models are particularly suitable here. Which mattress for night-time sweating?

The climate can have a direct influence on sleep quality. A suitable bed system consisting of mattress, duvet, and pillow can contribute significantly to a pleasant bed climate. Look for breathable and temperature-regulating materials. The BICO Clima range is designed precisely for this.

Why do mattresses have wool layers?

Virgin sheep's wool ensures optimal thermal conditions during sleep – for a pleasantly warm and dry bed. Its fibers are breathable and absorb moisture without feeling wet. It also has an antibacterial effect and contributes significantly to a hygienic bed. Moreover, it is a natural, renewable, and therefore environmentally friendly raw material.

Does BICO also offer mattresses for allergy sufferers?

All mattresses in the BICO range are also available on request at no extra charge with an anti-allergy mattress cover. It is washable at 60 °C and made of ClimaFlow fabric with hollow-fiber quilting featuring natural Sensity™ anti-mite treatment (vegan).

Does BICO also offer metal-free mattresses?

As an alternative to mattresses with a classic pocket spring core, BICO has developed its own plastic spring technology. This creates the typical springy comfort without any metal across the entire lying surface. Mattresses with foam cores also offer a lying surface without metal. Zipper eyelets or individual small parts are made of metal. However, the amount involved has no relevant electromagnetic influence.

Does BICO also offer mattresses for vegans?

All mattresses in the BICO range are also available on request at no extra charge with a vegan mattress cover. This refers to the quilting material (standard virgin sheep's wool) and the anti-mite treatment (lactic acid bacteria). On request, the mattress cover can be selected in a vegan version. The Isabelle by BICO and BICO basics ranges are made from vegan materials.

Can I buy an additional mattress cover?

By stating the relevant model and the dimensions, you can order mattress covers from BICO and Isabelle by BICO on request.

Where are the mattresses made?

We carry a wide range from various manufacturers as well as brands such as BICO, HEFEL, and TEMPUR. The exact origin varies depending on the brand and model and is shown on the respective product page or available on request. We are happy to advise you personally in our showroom in Bischofszell.

Which side is up?

The respective brand label is always attached to the top side of the mattress. Depending on the model, the head and foot ends are marked with an additional label.

My freshly produced mattress has a strong odor of its own. What should I do?

If your new mattress gives off an unpleasant, chemical odor, this is usually no cause for concern. All our mattresses contain a core made of very high-quality foam. During the manufacturing process of many foams, oils and gases that are completely harmless to the environment and health are released. They are the reason for possible, short-term odor formation over a few days, especially with mattresses delivered in packaging. We therefore recommend airing the room somewhat more frequently than usual at first. In addition, open the zipper of the mattress cover and change the bed linen more often. Washing the mattress cover can also help.

My new mattress makes noises.

Due to the materials and fibers used in the cover, a slight crackling can be heard with some models at first. This will fade away more and more.

My mattress is too firm or too soft.

How long do I need to get used to the mattress?

It sometimes takes a while to get used to the lying comfort of a new mattress, especially if it differs greatly from the previous one. Allow yourself at least 30 nights to adjust.

Do I have to turn the mattress?

Regularly turning mattresses with a reversible construction helps moisture escape and relieves the material. Rotatable models can additionally be rotated lengthwise. The foams used by BICO are of high quality and very durable even without turning.

How often should I clean a mattress?

The mattress cover should be washed once a year.

How can I clean a mattress?

The mattress covers can be machine-washed or dry-cleaned. Please observe the care instructions on the sewn-in label. The mattress core itself cannot be washed.

In which firmness levels are the mattresses available?

Most mattresses are available in the 3-4 firmness levels: soft, medium, dura; some models also in extra dura.

In which dimensions are the mattresses available?

Most mattresses are available in 4 lengths: 190, 200, 210 and 220 cm, and in 9 widths: 80, 90, 95, 100, 120, 140, 160, 180 and 200 cm

How long does it take for BICO basics mattresses to be ready to sleep on after unpacking?

Carefully open the mattress packaging and unroll the mattress. We recommend waiting 3 hours before using it for sleeping.

The BICO basics mattresses are Made in Europe.

Are the BICO basics mattresses available in other firmness levels?

The BICO basics models #01 and #02 are available in the firmness level medium. The mattresses #03 and #04 are reversible, with medium on one side and firm on the other.

Are the BICO basics mattresses available in other dimensions?

The BICO basics mattresses are available in 6 widths: 80, 90, 100, 120, 140, 160 and 180 cm, and 1 length: 200 cm. The models #03 and #04 are additionally available in the dimension 90 x 190 cm.

Can I sleep-test a BICO basics mattress?

We organize the collection of the unrolled mattress. For this purpose, we will send you a plastic cover in which you can pack the mattress. Our transport service will contact you to collect the mattress free of charge, and we will refund the purchase price. However, please bear in mind that it typically takes the body an average of 30 nights to adjust.

Slatted Frames

How long does a slatted frame last?

When buying a new mattress, it is advisable to also check the spring slats of the slatted frame for fatigue in their restoring force. Replacement is recommended after around 10 years.

Does the slatted frame need to be replaced when buying a new mattress?

For optimal balancing of the body during sleep, the interaction between slatted frame and mattress is very important. Only when the quality of both elements is ensured and matched to each other can the sleep system fully perform its function. For an optimal lying feel, BICO matches its slatted frames to the mattress range. We therefore recommend combining a new mattress with a suitable slatted frame.

Pillows & Duvets

How long does a pillow last?

Even with good care, pillows become unhygienic and no longer provide the usual support. Replacement is recommended after 3-5 years.

How often should I clean a pillow?

Pillows or their covers should be washed once a year.

How can I clean a pillow?

Depending on the model, the entire pillow or its cover can be machine-washed or dry-cleaned. Please observe the care instructions on the sewn-in label.

Which bed linen covers fit the pillows?

For each product, the bed linen size into which the pillow fits is indicated. You will find the net dimensions of the pillows in the respective product details of the pillow. Deluxe Sleep bed linen is particularly well suited as a complement.
